Teng Tools supported Johan Kristoffersson from Sweden has won the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy with two rounds still remaining. PSRX Volkswagen Sweden has also won the teams’ championship after dominating the 2017 season with its pair of Volkswagen Polo GTi Supercars.
Quite an achievement for the Teng Tools supported team in their first year in the VW Polo’s.
Kristoffersson took his fifth event win and ninth podium in a row at the Neste World RX of Latvia in Riga at the weekend to extend his commanding lead at the top of the driver standings to 62 points. There are only 60 points available in the final two events of the season so Johan cannot be beaten and is now the 2017 FIA WRX World Champion. Team PSRX Volkswagen Sweden also leave Latvia with a 112 point advantage in the teams’ championship – a big enough gap over their nearest rivals to guarantee the team trophy as well.
Two world championships won in one day!
Meanwhile, Petter Solberg was involved in a collision on turn one of the second semi-final which saw the race red-flagged. The Norwegian was taken to hospital for precautionary checks where x-rays later revealed that he had broken his collarbone. Not the best end to the day but we think Petter will be happy even if he is a bit sore.
